Letter to the editor | His name was Joe Paterno

September 12, 2013

In Tuesday’s CDT editorial, “A welcome new tradition at Penn State,” about another honor for John Cappelletti, I note a glaring omission — an omission I also noted during Saturday’s ceremony: A team rarely becomes a real team without a coach.

This coach’s name was Joe Paterno.

Many people find the university’s omission of Paterno’s name from this event shameful and cowardly, especially in light of the fact that the prosecutor in the Sandusky case, Frank Fina, stated only days prior to Saturday’s game that there was no evidence involving Paterno in a coverup.

Why are they so afraid to say Paterno’s name?
