Letter to the editor | A memorable tribute

September 13, 2013

As a longtime resident of State College, I can say that among the most moving experiences was Wednesday’s performance of Richard Biever’s “The New Normal: A Spiritual Response in Words and Music.”

The heartfelt tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11 was something not easily forgotten. The readings were profound and the music well chosen. The cast put their heart and soul into the original production.

The privilege of living here includes hearing the words — firsthand — of many of those whose works were read last night: over the years, we’ve witnessed Desmond Tutu, Elie Wiesel and Fred Rogers hold State College audiences spellbound.

To paraphrase Sen. Bob Casey’s tribute to the heroes who gave their lives on 9/11: May we be worthy of their valor.
