BELLEFONTE — With about six weeks before Centre Crest nursing home officially becomes a nonprofit, county commissioners are trying to make the transition go smoothly.
The Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Complete Healthcare Resources at its meeting Tuesday to provide interim management services from Oct. 7 to Oct. 31. CHR already has been chosen as the management company for the new nonprofit and has been assisting the county throughout the process.
The contract total is $14,400 and will be charged on top of the $5,000 the county is already paying for the month in consulting services.
Commissioner Chris Exarchos said using CHR will help manage the changeover from current Administrator Rich Bruno, who will resign when the transition is complete Oct. 31.
“You don’t want to change management overnight,” Exarchos said. “You’ve got to have some continuity.”
Management officially will change Oct. 7, but Bruno will stay on in an advisory capacity until Oct. 31.
CHR had posted the jobs for both the administrator and director of nursing positions and will fill them with the approval of the Centre Care nonprofit board. County Administrator Tim Boyde said possible candidates have been identified for both positions.
The board voted 2-1 in August to transfer the lease to Centre Care, but the transition won’t be complete until everything goes through the state. The conversations have started, but the process isn’t finished.
When Centre Care takes over, the nursing home will be reimbursed at a higher rate for the medical care it provides. The locked county reimbursement rates were a main reason the board decided to make the change.
Because the nursing home still is in county hands, Exarchos said the board will continue to work closely with the nonprofit and CHR.
“Right now we’re both working together to create a smooth transition,” he said.
