Penn State women’s soccer: Hayes earns national honor for Nittany Lions

September 18, 2013

— Penn State’s Maya Hayes was named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Division I National Player of the Week on Tuesday — the Nittany Lions’ first player ever to pick up the national honor.

The senior forward scored four goals — including two game-winners — and added one assist in three wins last week against Bucknell, Oklahoma State and Tulsa.

Hayes’ nine goals this season leads the Big Ten.

Penn State (6-1-1), which moved up to No. 9 in the nation this week, hosts Northwestern to begin conference play on Friday.
