From CDT staff reportsSeptember 20, 2013

It’s a rivalry 59 games in the making, and while Penn State fans will have to wait a decade to see it resume, Penn State and West Virginia will meet again.

Penn State and West Virginia officials on Thursday confirmed a two-game series to begin in 2023. The cdt reported in July the two schools were in talks to renew their series.

The Mountaineers will visit Beaver Stadium on Sept. 2, 2023, and the Nittany Lions will travel to Morgantown, W.Va., on Aug. 31, 2024.

Penn State and West Virginia, about 180 miles apart, last played in 1992. The Nittany Lions won that game 40-26 and joined the Big Ten in 1993, signaling an end to the series.

The teams first met in 1902 and played every year from 1947 to 1992. Penn State leads the series 48-9-2.
