September 21, 2013

— Penn State’s Whitney Church scored in double overtime as Penn State rallied to knock off Northwestern 3-2 at Jeffey Field on Friday.

The Wildcats (2-5-2) had taken a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by Kate Allen, the second with 22 minutes left in the contest.

Penn State (7-1-1) fought back to tie it. Church cut the margin in half with her first goal of the season just 1 1/2 minutes later and Maya Hayes’ 10th goal with a little over six minutes left in regulation.

After a scoreless first overtime, Church won it 6 1/2 minutes in the second extra period by drilling in a shot from 20 yards out from the far corner.

Raquel Rodriguez and Kori Chapic had assists for Penn State.
