Boys’ cross country: State College places third

September 21, 2013

— With three runners among the top 25, State College ran to a third-place finish at the PIAA Foundation Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

Will Cather led the Little Lions with his 13th-place finish of 16 minutes, 50 seconds on the 5-kilometer course which will be used for the PIAA Championships in November.

State College earned 151 points for its result in the 30-team Class AAA race. North Allegheny easily won with 31 points, while Lower Dauphin was second at 136.

Chris Golembeski was 20th in 17:07, Kyle Adams took 23rd in 17:11, Alex Milligan was 44th in 17:43 and Matt Beyerle completed the five scoring runners in 17:53 for 51st place.

“These guys, we did not back off training all week,” State College coach Dave Felice said. “We ran through this week. To me, to come in third with the caliber of teams there, it was an outstanding effort. It’s the first time I’ve walked away from that course and didn’t feel like we took a beating. We made a very respectable showing.”
