Boys’ soccer: Clearfield outlasts Philipsburg-Osceola

September 24, 2013

— After 80 minutes of scoreless play in regulation, Clearfield stunned Philipsburg-Osceola with just 22 seconds left in the second overtime period for a 1-0 Bison boys’ soccer victory Monday.

Aaron Angstadt netted the winner at 99:38. Jack Soult lofted a pass off to the left flank for Angstadt, who got a step on a Mountie defender and fired the ball just inside the far post.

“We covered their guys really well, frustrated them a lot, and they were taking shots but they weren’t particularly threatening,” P-O coach Shawn Inlow said. “Until that last one ... he took a really good shot, sent it to the back post and it was game over. He only had about six inches to shoot at, our keeper had the rest covered, but it was game over.”

Mitchell Winters made eight saves in the loss while Keith Biancuzzo stopped 17 shots for the shutout as the Mounties outshot the Bison 20-17.

“We were really sharp,” Inlow said. “They just didn’t go in.”
