High school football: Tyrone thumps Bellefonte

From CDT staff reportsSeptember 28, 2013

— The Red Raiders didn’t put up much of a fight against the Tyrone Golden Eagles.

First of all, they couldn’t stop Jordan Oliver.

The Tyrone running back turned just 12 carries into 155 yards and scored four touchdowns as the Golden Eagles (4-1) routed the Red Raiders 53-6 on Friday night.

Tyrone scored twice in each quarter with Oliver leading the way.

Oliver led off the game with a 71-yard touchdown run and followed that with an eight-yard scoring scamper in the first quarter to give Tyrone a 14-0 lead. Erik Wagner then found his star running back for a 45-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Oliver added a three-yard run early in the third quarter to trigger the running-clock.

Bellefonte was led by Jon Kerschner who ran the ball five times for 60 yards. He picked up 48 of those on his team’s lone score in the fourth quarter. The Red Raiders couldn’t sustain drives and were forced to punt five times by a Tyrone defense that also proved to be stingy. The Golden Eagles forced three turnovers to make it a long night for Bellefonte.

Bellefonte will face Clearfield on October 4 while Tyrone travels to Wingate next week to take on Bald Eagle Area.
