PennDOT lowers weight limit on Huston Township bridge

From CDT staff reportsSeptember 30, 2013

The weight limit on a bridge in Huston Township has been lowered, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The bridge spanning Williams Run on Steele Hollow Road, about three miles north of Martha’s Furnace, now can carry up to 30 tons for single vehicles and 34 tons for combination vehicles.

That’s still high enough to accommodate most vehicles, including a loaded school bus and the average fire truck.

The bridge previously was posted for 33 and 38 tons. It was built in 1936 and carries an average of just under 300 vehicles per day. The new posting will remain in place until repairs can occur. Bridges across the state have recently received reduced weight postings.
