Boys’ golf: State College’s Friberg paces field at sectionals

— State College’s Christian Friberg led the field and the Little Lions finished second as a team at sectional qualifying Tuesday.

The top 10 individuals and top three teams qualified for the District 6 championship, set for Oct. 8-9 at Scotch Valley Country Club. The Little Lions qualified three individuals in addition to the team.

Friberg fired a 2-over 74 for medalist honors, beating Hollidaysburg’s Jerome Landry and Danny Stubbs by four strokes.

The Little Lions, with a 321 team total, also got an 80 from Ben Gelenberg and an 83 from Tyrus Gates to make districts, while Kevin Zuercher carded an 84.

Hollidaysburg won with a 319 and Altoona was third at 344.
