Girls volleyball: State College beats Central Dauphin

From CDT staff reportsOctober 3, 2013

— Despite not playing its best match, the State College girls’ volleyball team did enough to put away Central Dauphin in a three-set sweep Wednesday evening in the North Gym.

The Lady Little Lions dropped the Rams 25-23, 25-23, 25-18 to stay in second place in the Mid-Penn Conference’s Commonwealth Division.

It was the team’s fourth dual match in eight days, also hosting their invitational tournament all day Saturday.

“We’re all a little tired,” coach Chad Weight said. “We’re at that point in the season where things kind of catch up with everybody. We didn’t play well but we got away with a win.”

Taylor Leath pounded down 23 kills, six digs and two aces to pace the Lady Little Lions (10-1 overall, 9-1 Mid-Penn). Kyla Irwin added seven kills, two aces and a pair of blocks, Annie Summers also posted two blocks, Janae Moran dished out 29 assists to accompany six digs, Abby Harrington also collected six digs, and Christine Irwin and Sydney McNulty each added a pair of aces.

State College, No. 7 in Class AAA in the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association’s poll, remained a game behind No. 6 and conference leader Cumberland Valley, while Central Dauphin (8-5, 7-4) dropped four game back.
