Field hockey: Meily helps give State College win

— Paige Meily put in the only score of the day as State College stopped Newport 1-0 Wednesday at South Track Field.

Meily converted a penalty stroke with 24:01 left for the lone score, despite State College dominating in shots 18-8.

Megan McCarthy made eight saves for the shutout, while Misty Van Horn stopped 17 shots for Newport.

“I am very pleased with the effort put forth by the team to continuously improve on creating scoring opportunities,” Lady Little Lions coach Karin Johnson said. “Tonight’s game showed an overall team effort, and that is what we will continue to build upon for the rest of the season”
