Penn State football: Lineman John Urschel up for another honor

— Penn State’s John Urschel is among the candidates for the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments, and is a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, endowed by HealthSouth, which recognizes an individual as the top football scholar-athlete in the nation.

The 6-foot-3, 301-pound senior guard has started 16 straight games and played in 29 consecutive contests, earning first-team All-Big Ten last season.

He also is on the watch list for the Outland Trophy and the Rotary Lombardi Award.

With a 4.0 GPA, the 2012 first-team Academic All-American already has earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics and is working on a second master’s in math education
