Spring Township crash sends 3 to hospitals, one with major injuries

From CDT staff reportsOctober 4, 2013

An early morning crash Friday in Spring Township injured three people, sending one person with major injuries to UPMC Altoona by helicopter, according to state police at Rockview.

Jared Roberts, 19, of Bellefonte, was making a three-point turn in his 1967 Dodge Dart on Harrison Road near the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology in Spring Township at 5:20 a.m., when he and his passenger, a 17-year-old boy who wasn’t identified but also was from Bellefonte, were struck by a 2011 Kia Sorento driven by Corinna Panulla, 25, of Pleasant Gap, according to a police report.

Police said Panulla didn’t see Roberts’ car sideways in the road and struck the Dodge on the right passenger door. Both cars came to a rest about 40 feet beyond the point of impact.

The 17-year-old passenger in Roberts’ Dodge was flown by helicopter to Altoona with major injuries, according to the report.

Roberts and Panulla were taken by ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries, police said.
