WINGATE — After 80 minutes of scoreless soccer on Saturday, it took Philipsburg-Osceola’s Jon Guerra just 20 seconds to end it.
Guerra scored in overtime as the Mounties topped Bald Eagle Area 1-0 in boys’ play on an unseasonably warm afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
The Mounties (3-6-1) took the kickoff in the overtime period and the Eagles never touched the ball. P-O used seven consecutive passes before finding Levi Muir, who split two defenders and drew out BEA keeper Austin Huyett before dishing to Guerra for the game-winner.
“It was a crazy day,” P-O coach Shawn Inlow said. “We had several players out because of SATs and BEA had five out with illness.”
Mitch Winters stopped seven BEA shots to earn the shutout. Alex Boyer and Huyett combined for six saves for the Eagles.
The two teams will meet again Monday at Philipsburg-Osceola.
