Penn State women's soccer: Minnesota stuns No. 7 Nittany Lions

From CDT staff reportsOctober 7, 2013

— Penn State had more than three times as many shots, but Minnesota got the only goal as the Gophers upset the No. 7 Nittany Lions 1-0 on Sunday.

The loss was the first for Penn State (10-2-1 overall) after four straight wins to open the Big Ten season. The loss was just Penn State’s fourth all-time to the Golden Gophers (9-3-1, 2-2-1).

Penn State outshot Minnesota 20-6. Haley Helverson scored the lone goal in the 17th minute of action. She received the ball right in front of the goal on a cross from Steph Brandt and knocked it into the net from point blank range.

Britt Eckerstrom had one save for the Nittany Lions. Tarah Hobbs had seven saves for Minnesota, including six in the second half.

Penn State next hosts Michigan on Oct. 13.
