Girls’ golf: State College captures District 6 title

— With three golfers in the top 10 overall, State College earned the District 6 Class AAA team title at the Penn State White Course on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Little Lions finished with a 718 total, easily getting the best of runner-up Bellefonte’s 774 in the two-day tournament. State College will be back on the course Friday at Treasure Lake in DuBois in a PIAA qualifier.

Karli Nolan led the way with her 25-over 169 total, finishing second overall in a competition with both Class AA and AAA golfers. Bishop McCort’s Kayla Orr won the title at 20-over 164

The Lady Little Lions’ Natalie Faulds was fifth at 175, and Ashley Stewart was another six strokes back for eighth place.

Bellefonte was paced by Kaitlyn Vogel’s 174 to finish fourth and Emily Sinclair’s 185, which was good for ninth.

Forest Hills earned the Class AA team title and will compete at the PIAA Championships.

Philipsburg-Osceola’s Haylee Hayward was 24th with a 212. The individual champion from both classes advance to the regional tournament at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville on Wednesday.
