BIG SPRING — State College ran together as a group for most of the race, but the Lady Little Lions finished a little too far back on their way to a third-place finish at the Mid-Penn Conference Championship meet on Saturday.
Emma Cousins led the way with a 16th-place finish in 20 minutes, 47 seconds, one place and one second ahead of Larissa Burka, while Hannah Catalano was next, two more seconds back. They were followed by Natasha Fedkina (29th), Catherine Curtin (31st), Victoria Scutti (32nd) and Kaelyn Yoder (35th) with high finishes. The team had a mere 32-second spread among its top five runners in scoring
“It was a tough race, but we really needed some girls with some lower sticks,” State College coach Rebecca Donaghue said, referring to the finishing places. “We had a great spread, but they needed to run a little more aggressively. It was a big week of training, and now we’ll start winding down and get ready for districts and states.”
The Lady Little Lions will be back on the course at the District 6 meet Oct. 26.
