Letter to the editor | A clear choice

October 17, 2013

It’s hard to imagine a choice that is more clear for Bellefonte’s Historic Architecture Review Board, and the borough of Bellefonte, regarding preserving the Garman Opera House from demolition, and for restoration.

The HARB’s website declares: “Preservation of historic structures and districts in Bellefonte has been seen for nearly 3 decades as the key to future economic viability.” The plan advanced by the Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association to save and transform the uniquely historic Garman into a regional arts center is not only sound, and backed by many past BHCA success stories, it is backed by many enthusiastic community members and is the right thing to do.

The HARB should be urged to act to preserve the Garman as part of Bellefonte’s unique past and vibrant future.
