The skinny: Memorial Field got a facelift this season, but the revitalized landmark has been anything but, “home, sweet home” for the State College football team.
The Little Lions are 1-3 in their updated digs and Friday’s contest is their last chance to win in front of the home fans in the regular season.
A win tonight has more implications than keeping the home fans happy. The Little Lions are trying to improve their seeding before district playoff action begins.
State College comes into the game fresh off a 34-20 loss against Central Dauphin East. The Little Lions gave up 257 yards rushing to CD East tailback Chase Edmonds, whose effort brought comparisons to former Bishop McDevitt and now Philadelphia Eagles standout LeSean McCoy.
What has to concern Al Wolski and his staff more was that the Little Lions were outscored 20-0 after the break. Usually, it’s State College that wins the battle after halftime adjustments are made.
The Little Lions face a squad that hasn’t made the right adjustments all season. The Thundering Herd has been the Sputtering Herd, having scored more than two touchdowns in just one game the entire season.
Carlisle fell 17-6 to Chambersburg last week in a driving rainstorm.
Quarterback Billy Burger is 60 of 115 for 743 yards and two scores. Basama Bailor has 360 yards on 52 carrries, a nearly seven-yard average per carry, and three scores.
The Thundering Herd defense has been decent, allowing 25 points per game.
