The skinny: If the District 6 playoffs began today, Bald Eagle Area would have one of the eight Class AA spots. The Eagles are seventh.
Holding onto the spot will be difficult, especially since they face one of the state’s best Class AAA teams in Clearfield, led by quarterback Christian Lezzer.
Both teams are coming off thrilling wins that came in different ways.
Clearfield drove 50 yards, beating Tyrone 27-26 on Christian Lezzer’s 4-yard TD run with 41 seconds left. The Bison got the win thanks to two blocked extra points from linebacker Seth Ford, who leads the team with 56 tackles.
Clearfield’s rushing attack is outstanding. Lezzer, headed for Boston College, has amassed 1,024 yards and 18 touchdowns. Tyler Stratton has added 710 yards and 12 scores, and freshman Seth Caldwell has 565 yards and five TDs.
BEA built a huge lead and hung on for dear life as Bryan Greene’s tackle on a two-point conversion preserved a 49-47 win over Huntingdon.
Dakota Bartley carried the load, rushing for 200 yards and two scores. Greene also caught a touchdown pass and took a kickoff back 77 yards for a score.
