Penn State men’s soccer: Nittany Lion duo earn awards

October 22, 2013

— Penn State’s Drew Klingenberg and Andrew Wolverton were named Big Ten Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday..

The duo helped the No. 17 Nittany Lions to a 2-1 win at No. 14 Michigan State on Sunday to solidify the team’s lead in the conference.

Klingenberg scored a spectacular goal in regulation, then helped set up Jordan Tyler on the game-winner in double overtime, while Wolverton had a career-high nine saves at the other end of the field. Penn State has had the conference’s weekly defensive honor each of the last three weeks.

Penn State (9-3-1, 4-0) needs either a win or tie in one of its final two conference games to wrap up the Big Ten title. The team hosts Northwestern on Sunday.
