Our View | Thumbs up, thumbs down for Tuesday

October 22, 2013

Thumbs down: To three firms that have settled a civil lawsuit in the Scranton-area “kids for cash” scandal. The firms got off easy by agreeing to pay $2.5 million to settle with thousands of children. Two judges are in jail for accepting payments to send kids to the lockups.

Thumbs up: To Penn State graduate and public relations legend Larry Foster for his strong support of programs at his alma mater. Foster died last week. But the onetime trustee made a huge impact at Penn State in the areas of charitable giving and alumni outreach. He’ll be missed.

Thumbs down: To a 55-year-old Butler County man who is facing dozens of counts of rape and incest after allegedly fathering four children with a relative over two decades. The suspect’s name has been withheld to protect the victim, which we understand. How sad and shocking.
