Last meeting: Tyrone 42, Penns Valley 14, last season

Key players to watch: PV— Taylor Collison, RB; T— James Oliver, RB

The skinny: Penns Valley’s hopes of making the District 6 Class AA playoffs rest on pulling a major upset Friday against Tyrone, which has already clinched a spot in the postseason.

The Rams have 460 points, 50 behind Bald Eagle Area for the eighth and final playoff spot. Huntingdon (520) is seventh.

To knock off Tyrone, Penns Valley is going to have to find a way to slow running back James Oliver. The Golden Eagle senior has rushed for 1,085 yards and 18 touchdowns this season. He’s gained more than 100 yards in every Tyrone win (including 217 in a 48-21 romp over Central Mountain last week) and has been held to 55 or less in the Golden Eagles’ two losses (Central and Clearfield).

If you commit too much to the run, Tyrone quarterback Erik Wagner can do damage. Wagner has thrown for 1,026 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.

The Rams have pieced together a three-game winning streak, though those opponents (Bellefonte, Philipsburg-Osceola and Bucktail) have combined for just three wins this season.

Penns Valley thumped Bucktail 56-28 last week, racking up 512 yards of offense. The Rams scored five touchdowns of 40 yards or more in the romp. Cameron Tobias completed 5 of 7 passes for 129 yards and two scores.
