Girls volleyball: State College tops Clarion

— State College got a tussle for two sets, but the Lady Little Lions pulled away for a 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13 victory over Clarion in their regular-season finale on Thursday.

Taylor Leath had 24 kills and 14 digs for the Lady Little Lions (17-1), who knocked off the state’s second-ranked Class A team. Christine Irwin had 19 digs, eight kills and two aces. Janae Moran had 37 assists and two aces, while Kyla Irwin blocked six shots.

“It was a good team for us to play leading into the playoffs,” State College coach Chad Weight said. “They always play us tough.”

Top-seeded State College will await the winner between Altoona and Hollidaysburg in the District 6 Class AAA title game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tyrone.
