Letter to the editor | A Republican responds

October 26, 2013

In a letter in Wednesday’s CDT (“No comparison”), the writer states that Republicans want to hold somebody accountable for the technical problems with the rollout of the Affordable Care Act.

He then mentions that Republicans have a short memory about our being told that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction leading up to the war in Iraq.

Oh boy! Do we remember! President George W. Bush was and still is wrongly vilified by those who still claim that he lied about the WMD.

It was, in fact, President Bill Clinton, serving in his second term, who first told us about Saddam having WMD.

We also need to remember that, in the months before the Iraq war, many leading congressional Democrats, including Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Chuck Schumer, Hillary Clinton and more, all saw the same intelligence reports as Bush on the WMD and they told us that Saddam had them.

We should also remember that Saddam had used chemicals against Iran and against the Kurds. The intelligence community that we depend on believed WMD were present in Iraq.

We probably shouldn’t worry about Kathleen Sebelius getting fired, because nobody seems to be accountable under Obama’s watch. From Fast and Furious to Benghazi and the NSA spying, nobody’s been held accountable.

Sebelius will probably be promoted.
