Girls volleyball: Penns Valley posts first postseason win in program history

— Penns Valley made history on Monday.

The Lady Rams recorded their first-ever District 6 Class AA volleyball playoff win, knocking off Central 25-22, 17-25, 25-22, 25-21 in a first-round match.

No. 8 Penns Valley advances to face top-seeded Philipsburg-Osceola in the quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Chelsea Emel pounded 14 kills and blocked three spikes for the Lady Rams. Ashley Struble added seven kills, while Bethany Miller had five kills and three aces.

Kayla Bracken had a team-leading four blocks. Tangie Lyons dished out 38 assists and Lindsey Dix had four aces.

“The girls played well,” Penns Valley coach Sei Hee Hwang said. “Central was a strong opponent. The girls fought hard and handled everything that Central threw at them.”

Philipsburg Osceola swept Penns Valley in a pair of regular-season meetings — winning 25-14, 25-12, 25-16 on Oct. 1 and 25-23, 25-16, 25-12 on Sept. 5.

The Lady Rams and Scarlet Dragons had split their two regular-season meetings, with each winning on their home floor, as the teams tied for fourth place in the Mountain League standings.
