UNIVERSITY PARK — The State College hockey team made its first game at Penn State’s new Pegula Ice Arena a memorable one.
The Little Lions exploded for six second-period goals as they knocked off Norwin 7-3 in their season-opener on Monday.
Trailing 2-1, State College took control in the second period. Petr Horgos’ goal early in the period tied it and the Little Lions’ offense kicked into high gear over the final half of the frame. Andrew Moscone and Luc Michael scored 11 seconds apart to give State College the lead for good with 9:07 left in the period. Sey Yeaple, Jared Karas and Moscone also would score before the end of the period.
Yeaple also had a first-period goal. Karas had three assists, while Brendan Horgas, Robby Waite, Karas, Moscone, Yeaple and Horgos added one each.
Little Lion goalie Chris Rosselot stopped 21 shots. State College killed off all seven Norwin power plays.
Timmy Palmer scored the first two goals of the game to pace Norwin.
State College plays at Penn Trafford on Friday.
