Letter to the editor | A balanced vision

October 29, 2013

Strong endorsement letters for Elizabeth Goreham have already been written by experienced community leaders, including several members of our Borough Council.

Those letters stated that Goreham understands the responsibilities of State College mayor and that she has been exemplary in performing her duties.

I agree. She has been an outstanding representative for State College at the local, regional, state and national levels.

Goreham is inclusive. She has a balanced vision for the future of State College that includes reasonable development while maintaining quality of our neighborhoods and downtown.

She cares about all those living in the borough. As an example, she’s worked hard to make the Penn State student presence an asset rather than a problem. She speaks at student orientations and other campus functions; assists international students as they adapt to life here; supports student initiatives that improve State College; and works with others to turn young enthusiasm and energy toward productive community activity.

Goreham has long experience serving the borough. She is conscientious and puts in long hours studying issues and talking with stakeholders and borough staff. She is a smooth and effective facilitator at meetings, and she’s an inspiration to many of us in the community.

For all these reasons I strongly support Elizabeth Goreham for State College mayor and encourage others to vote for her too.

Brian Dempsey, State College
