Letter to the editor | A humble public servant

October 29, 2013

Ron Madrid is a man of exceptional character and integrity, a humble public servant who would use his experience through years of public service and his success in the private sector to make State College a better community now and in the future.

Through close friendship with Madrid’s son Patrick (a naval aviator), I have known the Madrid family for more than 15 years. During this time, I have learned that Ron Madrid is a man of principle who lives his beliefs and is not afraid to challenge the status quo or to ask the difficult questions.

Madrid is a man of high standards and expectations, a man who inspires and motivates those around him to be the best they can be. The success of his four children is a prime example of his influence.

In a small community we need leaders who are principled yet pragmatic, who understand the proper role of local government and who respect the pluralism that our free society is based on.

With his years of military and civil service, Madrid not only understands this but has lived and is sworn to defend and uphold these values.

Madrid is a testament and a role model for any individual seeking to live a life of service and make a positive impact in their community.

As a State College native, educator and young member of the community, I believe we need a leader with the wisdom, vision and courage to ask the tough questions and solve the long-term challenges facing our small community.

Ron Madrid is that man.

It is with great pride and confidence that I endorse his candidacy for mayor of State College.
