The skinny: Last week’s Curtin Bowl triumph over Bellefonte moved Bald Eagle Area up one place to seventh in the race for one of eight spots in the race for the District 6 Class AA playoffs.

The Eagles will face the team that’s directly ahead of them in the playoff chase in Ligonier Valley (6-3) to close the regular season.

BEA will be looking for better luck against Ligonier Valley than it had last season. The two teams met twice last fall — in the last week of the regular season and the first week of the playoffs — and both times the Rams thumped the Eagles, winning 48-6 and 41-6.

Quarterback Scott Fennell returns from that squad. Fennell completed 8 of 11 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns in the playoff triumph.

This season, Fennell has completed 95 of 181 passes for 1,549 yards, with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Fennell has also rushed for 380 yards and nine touchdowns.

Fennell’s favorite target is Alec Bloom, who has 45 catches for 830 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Rams fell 35-34 to Northern Cambria last week, while BEA built a 51-0 halftime lead and cruised 57-12 over Bellefonte.

Dakota Bartley racked up 171 yards on just 15 carries and scored twice in the romp. Bryan Greene also returned a pair of punts for scores.

The Eagles have been tough at home this season, winning three of four games. In those three wins, they’ve scored at least 40 points.
