From CDT staff reportsNovember 8, 2013

Corl Street Elementary School students spent part of the day Thursday preparing for a Veterans Day recognition ceremony at the school Friday.

Some of the students wrote “Dear Hero” letters to be presented to veterans attending. Other students wrote poems, created posters and rehearsed songs for the special day. Students in one class made cards for servicemen and women stationed in Afghanistan and will be presented to Staff Sgt. John Han, a former sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and a Penn Stater.

The students and staff will be decked out in red, white and blue while the service members will be in uniform.

Also attending the event will be Chris English, Army specialist; Belinda Humes Hanson, Army captain; Rose Budd Fenstermacher, Army sergeant and World War II veteran; David Silverman, also a World War II veteran; Ben Salinas, an Air Force staff sergeant.
