College Station, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan Green's 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining allowed the Texas A&M Aggies to escape with a 68-65 victory over the Rice Owls in a non-conference bout at Reed Arena.
Kourtney Roberson had 19 points and was a rebound short of a double-double for Texas A&M (3-0). Alex Caruso added 11 points and Davonte Fitzgerald tacked on 14 off the bench.
Max Guercy had 17 points, Austin Ramljak added 11 and Marcus Jackson and Seth Gearhart had 10 apiece for Rice (1-2).
Even though it shot 35.7 percent from the field, while allowing the Owls to connect on 48.3 percent, Texas A&M led, 34-33, at the half by outscoring the Owls, 13-1, from the free throw line.
At the end of the second half Guercy made a layup with just over a minute to play to push Rice to a 64-63 advantage. Green, who scored five of his six points in the final minute, answered with a jumper to push the Aggies back in front. Guercy was fouled on the other end but split his free throw attempts. With the score tied, Green took a pass from Caruso and knocked down the game- winning 3-pointer on the next possession. Ramljak got off a last second 3- point attempt of his own but it was off the mark.
The game featured 11 ties and 22 lead changes. The Aggies owned a 25-8 advantage in points from the charity stripe.
