Piscataway, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Malcolm Hawkins scored 16 points and Brandon Goode nearly notched a double-double as the Norfolk State Spartans earned a 70-62 victory over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in a NIT Tip-Off matchup at the RAC.
Goode finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and five blocks for Norfolk State (3-3). Anell Alexis added 14 points and Pendarvis Williams chipped in 10.
Sidney Sanders Jr. tallied 13 points, Mathias Seilund had 11 points and eight rebounds and Matt MacDonald contributed 10 points for Fairleigh Dickinson (1-6).
Norfolk State jumped out to a 39-22 lead at the break by netting 53.6 percent from the field while Fairleigh Dickinson managed only eight field goals in the opening period.
After the break the Spartans cooled to 34.6 percent from the floor, but once again the Knights knock down more than 40 percent of their field goal tries.
Fairleigh Dickinson hit on 35.6 percent of its shots from the floor but did score 20 points off of turnovers. Norfolk State had a 40-34 edge on the boards and scored 18 second chance points.
