Cancun, MX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jelani Hewitt poured in a game-high 26 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists to help Georgia Southern defeat Presbyterian 76-66 in the third place consolation game in the Mayan Division of the Cancun Challenge.
Georgia Southern (3-4) was also led by Tre Bussey who finished with 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, and 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Curtis Diamond added 18 points as well for the Eagles in the victory.
The Eagles took a 37-32 lead into the half. However, Presbyterian kept the game within reach trailing only 57-54 with 8:12 remaining after a pair of free throws by Reggie Dillard.
Georgia Southern would go on a 13-2 run which began with a layup by Kyle Doyle and was capped by a pair of free throws by Hewitt with 3:13 remaining to make it 70-56. The Eagles cruised to the victory from there.
Presbyterian (1-7) was paced by Reggie Dillard who finished with a team-high 22 points, shooting 5-of-9 from three in the loss.
Also scoring in double-figures for the Blue Hose was Danny Herrera with 15 points and Jordan Downing with 14. William Truss added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
