From CDT staff reportsDecember 4, 2013

— Penn State’s Maya Hayes is one of 15 finalists for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy, given to the nation’s top soccer player.

The senior forward posted 19 goals and six assists in helping the Nittany Lions to their 19th straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The two-time NSCAA first-team All-American finished her career with 71 goals and 21 assists, and leads all active Division I athletes in goal-scoring.

She is the third Nittany Lions to be at least a semifinalist for the trophy three times, joining Tiffany Weimer and Christie Welch. Welch is Penn State’s lone winner of the award, in 2001.

Finalists for the trophy will be announced Dec. 12, and the award will be given Jan. 10.
