Marriage is an institution established by God.
“Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” (Matthew 19:4-6).
These are the words of Jesus Christ with a quote from the Old Testament. It is clear that God has established the participants of marriage as male and female. Furthermore, he said the man was to leave “father and mother” — again male and female. Any attempt to redefine marriage as anything other than the joining of one man and one woman for a lifetime is unnatural and a perversion of God’s original intent. Homosexual marriage is a violation of Scripture and an offense to God, as well as many in the Christian community.
God clearly condemns homosexuality throughout the Bible: Leviticus 18:22, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” Bestiality, incest and adultery are also equally condemned in the context of this passage.
There are some who allege that the New Testament is silent regarding homosexuality. Romans 1:26-28, “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.” This act is referred to as “against nature,” “vile affections” and “unseemly.”
In 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, it says, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” From these passages, it is clear that homosexuality is not something God will accept. It is a sin, as are the others mentioned. It is not a greater sin than the others, but it is a sin. God condemns all sin and can forgive all sin, but it must be acknowledged as such, confessed and forsaken.
The proponents of homosexual marriage partners argue that those who oppose this unnatural union have no right to intrude into the privacy of the bedroom, and I agree. I really don’t want to know what goes on in your bedroom, regardless of the gender of your partner. It is a private matter and ought to remain in the privacy of your bedroom, but it hasn’t. Instead, it is paraded in public on the streets; portrayed on television and on the movie screen; promoted by the media, educators and politicians; and being forced upon churches and private business.
