Our view | Thumbs up, down for Thursday

December 12, 2013

Thumbs up: To the Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District, which is offering free admission to three varsity athletics events to those who donate to the district’s coat drive. Two events remain: wrestling Thursday vs. Chestnut Ridge and girls basketball Friday vs. Tyrone.

Thumbs down: To Rodger Kent Williams, of Philadelphia, who has admitted being a participant in the January armed robbery of Kranich’s Jewelers in State College and a heist in North Carolina. He could face a long jail term. Police are trying to catch three accomplices.

Thumbs up: To the Penn State women’s volleyball team, headed to the NCAA regional semifinals and a rematch with Michigan State this weekend in Lexington, Ky. Coach Russ Rose’s No. 2 Nittany Lions have won 21 straight matches, dating back to a Sept. 27 loss to the Spartans.
