Boys basketball: Penns Valley overcomes slow start for victory

From CDT staff reportsDecember 17, 2013

— It wasn’t the kind of start the Penns Valley boys’ basketball team was looking for, but the end result suited the Rams.

Zach Engle scored a team-high 13 points to lead Penns Valley over Central 34-31 on Monday night.

The Rams (4-0) were outscored 8-1 in the first quarter, but bounced backed for 31 points combined in the second and third quarters to stay undefeated.

“We missed some point-blank shots but we just made our shots in the second and third,” Penns Valley coach Terry Glunt said. “We took advantage of some turnovers and mismatches. I’ve got to hand it to Central — they just didn’t give up and made a real scary game of it.”

Zach Slagenweit led the Scarlet Dragons with a game-high 14 points and Alex Lafferty added 11 points.
