High school girls basketball: Bellefonte pulls away from Philipsburg-Osceola

December 19, 2013

The Red Raiders used a big third quarter to pull away from Philipsburg-Osceola and earned a 46-32 win on Wednesday.

Bellefonte (3-2) started flat but was able to get into an offensive groove as the game wore into its latter stages. Lea McCartney finished with eight points and sparked the Red Raiders, pulling down key rebounds and turning the ball up the court where her teammates drilled baskets.

“She was the one that really brought the energy and got the team going,” Bellefonte assistant coach Adam Gearhart said. “Everybody rallied around her.”

Ally Steen took advantage of McCartney’s boards and nailed two big third-quarter threes. Alexis Wetzler closed out the game with all seven of her points coming in the fourth quarter.

Abby Showers led P-O (0-4) with 12 points.
