Crows to be chased from downtown State College on Thursday, Friday evenings

From CDT staff reports December 26, 2013

Efforts to scare away flocks of crows from downtown State College will take place Thursday and Friday evenings, according to a borough news release.

Borough public works crews will use pyrotechnic “bangers and screamers” to frighten the crows away. The work will start at about 7 p.m. and continue until 9:30 p.m. both evenings.

A large number of migratory crows have been spotted roosting in the downtown area, and the birds are creating unsanitary and unpleasant conditions, borough staff said in the release.

The goal of the program is to discourage mass roosting and resolve accompanying sanitary problems.
