Our View | Thumbs up, down for Friday

December 27, 2013

Thumbs up: To State College Presbyterian Church and other area churches and the many volunteers who prepared and served meals on Christmas Day. The annual tradition is a way the churches have been reaching out to the community for years.

Thumbs down: To the burglars who have broken in to downtown apartments, taking TVs while, presumably, students are away during the Penn State winter break. Police are “heightening awareness,” as we all should, this time of year.

Thumbs up: To Gray’s Woods Elementary School teacher Jennifer Lawrence, who has taken a colorful approach to learning with the use of bouncy balls in place of desk chairs for her energetic first-graders. The big, orange balls seem to improve focus and performance.
