High school girls’ basketball: State College falls to Burrell in Kiwanis Holiday Tournament

December 28, 2013

— State College held a lead through three quarters on Friday before Burrell surged late in the fourth and went on to defeat the Lady Little Lions 48-45 in overtime in the State College Kiwanis Holiday Tournament.

Kyla Irwin and Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh each scored a game-high 17 points, as State College (6-1) got a good look with 13 seconds left in regulation, but the shot fell short.

“It was just a game of missed opportunities,” State College coach Bethany Irwin said. “I though Jalyn did an awesome job for us. (Burrell) was doubling up on Kyla, and Jalyn made some shots to keep us close. We came right back early in overtime, but really didn’t do much after that.”

The Lady Little Lions will meet Kennett today in the consolation game. Burrell will meet North Schuylkill in the girls’ title event.
