December 28, 2013

— Bald Eagle Area could only muster four first-round victories on Friday, and fell to last place after the first day of the 14-team Manheim Holiday Tournament.

Eagles Michael Kachik (113 pounds), Mitchell Taylor (170), David Gawryla (195) and Josh Fye (285) all advanced to the quarterfinals, but Fye was the only BEA wrestler to advance to the semifinal round. Fye defeated Spring-Ford’s Josh Boyer 7-6 in the quarterfinals.

Spring-Ford leads the team race with 76 points, followed by North Allegheny (73.5), Kiski Area (69.0), Reynolds (63.0) and J.W. Robinson (51.0) to round out the top five. Perennial power Easton is in ninth place with 36 points, as Shikellamy is in 13th place with 18 points, a point ahead of the BEA.

The semifinal and consolation rounds were not reported to the CDT at press time.
