Wrestling: Bellefonte’s Corl wins title at Conestoga Valley tourney; Philipsburg-Osceola‘s Gray places second

— Bellefonte’s Trevor Corl won the 135-pound title on Saturday with a 5-2 victory over Hamburg’s Chris Kummerer in the finals, as the Red Raiders finished the Conestoga Valley Holiday Wrestling Tournmanet in ninth place with 108.5 points.

Nick Gray finished second to highlight the day for Philipsburg-Osceola in a 12th-place team finish. Gray was pinned by Mechanicsburg’s Lucas Chestnut in 1:45 in their 220-pound championship bout, as the Mounties finished with 98 points.

With Corl, the Red Raiders finished the tournament with five placewinners, as Aaron Witherite finished third at 106 with a 6-4 win over Conestoga Valley’s Jose Morales; Luke Leathers finished seventh at 113 with a 17-4 major decision over Battlefield (Md.) wrestler Matt Asper; Brock Port finished third at 120 with a 7-0 victory over Hamburg’s Sean Stanish; and Nate Rosenberger was seventh at 145 with an 8-0 major over Mechanicsburg’s Cooper Wills.

Other placewinners for the Mounties included Chris Thomspson, who fell 4-2 to Austin DeSanto in the 113 third-place bout; Bryce Bennett pinned Exeter’s Kevin Edwards in 1:16 for fifth place at 106; Dennis Lumadue earned a 3-1 decision over Keaton Eidle of Wilson in the 182-pound fifth-place match; and Dakota Weitosh fell 4-1 to Wilson’s Tommy O’Brien to capture sixth place at 132.

Spring Grove won the 25-team tournament with 167.5 points, edging Hamburg’s 143 and Huntingdon’s 142.
