College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Dez Wells scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in leading the Maryland Terrapins to an 85-74 win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in a non-league test at the Comcast Center.
Seth Allen added 15 points off the bench for Maryland (8-5). Nick Faust and Evan Smotrycz each tallied 13 points and Jake Layman came through with 12.
James Woodard scored a game-high 25 points for Tulsa (4-9), which also got 12 points apiece from Rashad Smith and Pat Swilling.
The teams wre tied, 35-35, at halftime. Maryland hit on 40.6 percent of its field goal attempts, compared to a 33.3 percent effort from Tulsa. However, the Golden Hurricane had an 8-4 edge from the free-throw line.
After the break both teams improved, with the Terps lifting to 46.4 percent and the Golden Hurricane at 44.1 percent shooting. Maryland was able to pull away by holding a 19-2 advantage from the charity stripe.
Maryland dominated inside, holding a 43-34 advantage on the boards and outscoring Tulsa, 32-20, in the paint.
