Letter to the editor | Not worth the gamble

January 3, 2014

I read recently that Gov. Tom Corbett has finally given up his bid to rid the state of the lottery management.

After spending $4 million of taxpayer money, it is about time.

The lottery and the state liquor stores are the only state agencies that are turning over a profit to state taxpayers — not one penny of taxpayer dollars for either agency.

The gamblers and the drinkers pay the freight. Isn’t that the way it should be? If somehow we could get our legislators to show receipts for expenses, it might not cost us as much to run our overpaid, over-perked government.
