Our View | Thumbs up, down for Saturday

January 4, 2014

Thumbs up: To Penn State’s Allen Robinson, who gave fans and teammates two superb seasons before announcing Thursday he would enter the NFL draft. The record-setting wide receiver thrilled the Nittany Lion faithful with big catches and game-changing performances.

Thumbs down: To the local school districts that waited until Friday to announce two-hour delays due to the weather. Only Philipsburg-Osceola made what seemed to be an obvious call, given snow and frigid temperatures, on Thursday, giving students and parents advance warning.

Thumbs up: To Centre County officials, who finalized a 15-year contract with Motorola for the company to operate the new 911 system. The $5.4 million agreement was nearly $4 million less than what Motorola had sought. The new system is expected to be operational late this month.
