High school wrestling: Penns Valley second at duals

— Curtis Decker, Jacob Confer, Seth Decker and Andrew Hurd each went undefeated as Penns Valley placed second to host Panther Valley in the Anthracite Duals on Saturday.

The Rams defeated Wilson (47-27), Milton (39-37), Williams Valley (51-18) and Leighton (42-29), but fell 38-31 against Panther Valley.

Hurd was outstanding at 160 pounds, pinning all five opponents in the first period. Seth Decker recorded four pins and a decision at 152. Jacob Confer had two pins and three decisions at 132 and Curtis Decker added a pin, a major decision and three forfeit wins at 120.

Corey Hazel went 4-1 with four falls at 160. Michael Confer had three pins at 285.

“We didn’t get what we wanted which was a championship,” Rams coach Joel Brinker said. “We were champs last year. We wrestled well. We still haven’t done a lot of wrestling so far.”
